Bhubaneswar: A special bomb squad on Friday defused the suspected explosives, which were recovered from Konark Express at Bhubaneswar railway station the previous day, on riverbed of the Kuakhai in a regulated explosion.
According to sources, a sanitation worker spotted the explosives in the general coach of Konark Express around 3 am after the train arrived here on platform no 2. He also heard some noises and smoke emanating from the bag.
The RPF personnel seized the explosives and stored it in the station safe room. Red parachute signal rocket was written on the materials seized and these are usually used as distress flare used for search and rescue operations, preliminary investigation revealed.
A case has been registered by Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Bhubaneswar railway station and CCTV footage are being examined for some clue in the matter, the sources added.
