The driver and helper – Indrajit Bhui (25) and Padmolochon Dey (31) – also from Basta, were earlier arrested after 27 gunny bags containing 1,000 kg of explosive substances (potassium nitrate) were recovered from their truck near Tala Bridge under Chitpur police station limits of north Kolkata.
Based on information provided by the two, the STF had later arrested Sheikh Rabiul (40), who was to receive the entire consignment at Barasat in Bengal.
According to police sources, the truck was en-route from Odisha to North 24-Parganas district in Bengal when it was intercepted by the STF on the northern slope of Tala Bridge on BT Road around 12.20 am on March 8.
Vehicle-owner Tapan Kumar Mahapatra of Rupsa in Balasore district had filed a complaint at the local police station, stating that his truck was missing, the sources said.
