Dubai: Reports of renowned singer Rahat Fateh Ali khan being arrested in Dubai on Monday came as a shock to the music and film fraternity to India.
Pakistan’s Geo TV reported that Rahat Fateh Ali had been arrested in Dubai based on a defamation complaint lodged by his former manager, Salman Ahmed. The singer, who arrived in Dubai on Monday morning from Lahore for a musical collaboration, was taken into custody at the Immigration centre and subsequently transported to Burj Dubai police station for questioning, media reports said.
However, the singer dismissed reports of his arrest in Dubai.
In a video posted on social media platform X, Rahat Fateh Ali urged everyone not to believe horrible rumours.
“I am Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, your Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. I came here (to Dubai) to record songs… Everything is fine. I request you not to pay any attention to disgusting rumours. These reports are not true. You are my power. My audience and fans are my power. After God, my fans are my power,” the 49-year-old said in the video message.
“News circulating regarding the arrest of Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is fake and baseless. Regards Team RFAK,” read the caption of the video.
