Bhubaneswar: The Rama Devi Women’s University has announced recruitment of Assistant Professors for its various departments keeping in view acute shortage of faculty members.
The university will appoint 64 Assistant Professors and the Higher Education department has given the responsibility to the Odisha Public Service Commission in this regard, said the varsity’s Chairperson, Post-graduate Council, Prof Sasmita Mohanty. This was informed during the 6th Foundation Day celebration of the university on Thursday.
It may be mentioned here that Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo had admitted staff crunch in state-run universities. In reply to a question in the just-concluded winter session of Assembly, Sahoo admitted that no less than 725 out of a total of 1,426 (53 per cent) sanctioned posts of professors, associate professors and assistant professors in 10 state-run universities of Odisha are lying vacant. A total of 100 higher-level posts are vacant the universities of Berhampur, Sambalpur, Ravenshaw and Rama Devi.
The announcement for recruitments brings hope for the students pursuing courses in several disciplines, particularly Ph D.
The university had introduced Ph D admissions earlier this year and admissions are open in 11 departments including Economics, English, Odia, Home Science, Education, Gender Studies, Commerce, Bio Technology, Computer Science, and Life Science, informed Mohanty. However the number of seats in each department has not been decided yet, she said.
Likewise, the university has introduced Master of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication for the first time. Admissions against 32 seats in MA-JMC have started, said Mohanty and added that two lectures have been appointed.
On the other hand, in Plus Three, admissions will be open for 48 honours seats in Education Department from this year.
