Bhubaneswar: Town Police in Odisha’s Balangir on Wednesday arrested one person and seized first copy garments of some popular brands worth around Rs 43 lakh.
The arrested has been identified as Rajesh Kumar Lakhani.
Bolangir Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Tofan Bag told the media that 500 ‘Under Armour’ track pants, 346 ‘Levi’s’ jeans and 410 ‘Calvin Klein’ jeans were seized during the raid on the wholesale shop, Lakhani New Garment. “These clothes are brought from Raipur and then fake stickers are fixed on them,” he said.
The SDPO said that the action was taken on the basis of the complaint lodged by Deepesh Gupta, a representative of the garments company from Mumbai, whom a customer had approached suspicious of the quality of the purchase, on Tuesday.
A case has been registered under Sections 420/468/471 (offences of cheating, forgery, and counterfeiting) of IPC and 51 & 63 of Copyright Act and further investigation is on.
