Balangir: The four accused persons in fake certificate racket Odisha’s Balangir were sent to jail after their remand period came to an end on Saturday.

The Crime Branch of Odisha Police, which is investigating into the case, produced the four accused in the SDJM court in Balangir on the day. The court sent them to judicial custody as their remand in Crime Branch custody ended.

They include prime accused Manoj Mishra and his close associate Alok Ranjan Udgata and Tribihari Panda and Pares Budek. The Crime Branch (CB) had arrested Tribihari and Pares as they had applied for the government job by producing the fake certificates.

The CB had applied their remand for 5 days to the SDJM court on April 4. The court allowed 3 days’ police remand of all the four from April 5. The CB wanted to take their remand to ascertain facts and elicit information regarding modus operandi of the accused.

According to sources, the investigating agency has retrieved vital clues from the accused persons during the remand. The accused and the two candidates, who purchased the fake certificates, faced intense grilling by the CB officials.

The CB also attached Manoj’s properties including four plots, bank deposits and others to the tune of more than Rs 1 crore on Friday.
