Nayagarh: Police have arrested a fraudster for cheating crores of rupees from many unemployed youths in Khurda and Nayagarh districts by promising them government jobs.
Police sources said the accused, Kanhu Pradhan, hailed from Tangi in Khurda district. He targeted jobseekers by posing as a senior government official.
According to the sources, the accused had faked his identity as the Additional Home Secretary, Additional BMC Commissioner and other senior-level government officers to deceive his victims.
“Kanhu has minted over Rs 5 crore from unemployed youths in Tangi and Chandapur. He used to fake his identity as a senior official of the home department, health department and education department and duped youths on the pretext of providing them jobs,” Chandapur police station in-charge Rashmi Ranjan Dash informed after Kanhu’s arrest on Thursday.
Police launched a probe after several of his victims lodged complaints against Kanhu with Khurda and Nayagarh police.
During their investigation, police seized a bunch of fake identity cards, job offer letters, a mobile phone, a four-wheeler and unaccounted cash from the accused. He was then arrested.
