Jajpur: Police detained a person, who was allegedly collecting money from people by impersonating as a labour officer, at Anandpur in Keonjhar district on Tuesday night.
The accused has been identified as Tarun Panda, a resident of Mirjapur village in Jajpur district.
According to sources, Panda used to collect money from people of the locality on pretext of providing them labour cards by posing as a government official.
Last night, he was collecting money from a person on an assurance of issuing labour card when some locals noticed his suspicious activities. When he was unable to reply satisfactorily to the questions posed by them, the locals caught hold of him and called up the police.
A police team reached the village and took the person into custody for interrogation.
However, one of his associates, who had also come to the area along with him, managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
