Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) Of Odisha police on Friday arrested a self-proclaimed RTI activist on charges of cheating and impersonation.
The arrested has been identified as Kishore Kumar Mishra.
According to an official release, the resident of Berhampur, who had been living in Koraput for many years, was arrested on the basis of a complaint filed at Koraput Town police station on April 25, 2023. Fake ID of I & PR Department of the Odisha government and other incriminating documents were seized from him.
The release further said that Kishore used to cheat/extort money from people by claiming to be an RTI activist. He had also been promising crusher license, liquor license and transfer/posting, citing his contacts with senior officers, for the last 2-3 years. “Bank accounts of Kishore shows credit of more than Rs 2 crore in last 2- 3 years with lots of cash deposits.”
Initial investigation revealed that he was a member of a larger group involved in thuggery, cheating and impersonation. “This group used some mule bank accounts, including those of dead persons.”
It added that the accused is a MA in political science with good command over English.
Further investigation is on.
