Bhubaneswar: A duplicate sauce manufacturing unit was busted and a number of ingredients and raw materials were seized by the police in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, a special squad of the city police along with the officials of food and safety authority conducted a raid in Bhimtangi area of the capital city and busted the duplicate sauce-making unit which was preparing tomato and chili sauce.
Sources said the team seized several raw materials including pumpkin, potatoes and some hazardous substances, which were used to prepare the tomato and chili sauces. Several packaging materials worth lakhs of rupees were also seized.
The illegal unit was reportedly running for the last several years without any valid license. It has been sealed now and the owner and others involved in the racket will be taken into custody and interrogated, Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh said.
He said the samples of the sauces have been sent to the laboratory to ascertain its quality and further investigation is underway.
