The accused have been identified as Om Prakash Agarwal and his son Akash Agarwal.
According to police sources, Om Prakash is a member of Viswa Hindu Parishad, while his son works for the Bajrang Dal. Investigations revealed that Akash might have brought the money from Raipur in Chhattisgarh as he had visited the place just a day before the seizure. It is suspected that the huge amount of cash was meant for distribution among voters in poll-bound Bijepur in the district.
The duo was detained by Padmapur police on Sunday night after the cash was recovered from their Mahindra Xylo bearing registration number OD 17 G 1855.
