Phulbani: A man and his 12-year-old son sustained critical injuries after an unidentified miscreant threw acid on them at a village in Tumudibandha area of Odisha’s Kandhamal district.
As per preliminary information, the incident took place in the wee hours of Saturday when the two were asleep on the porch of their house at Kundeli village under Tumudibandha police limits in the district.
The victims have been identified as Mohan Kandar and his son Anuj Kandar.
Sources said Mohan and Anuj were sleeping on their porch when a miscreant hurled acid at them. Both screamed in pain following which the rest of the family woke up. However, by the time the family members came out, the attacker had already fled.
The two were immediately rushed to a hospital at Tumudibandha and later shifted to the Sub Divisional Hospital in Baliguda for further treatment as their condition was critical.
After being informed about the incident, police personnel visited the site and launched an investigation.
Police also started interrogating villagers in a bid to ascertain the identity of the culprit. Further details are awaited.
