Hyderabad: A female student of the Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad (IIT-H) was found hanging in her hostel room on Monday night.
She has been identified as Mamitha Nayak (21), a native of Odisha. She joined MTech first year at the institute last month.
According to reports, her batchmates found her hanging from the ceiling fan last night and alerted the hostel authorities. Sangareddy police was called in and they shifted the body for autopsy. A suicide letter purportedly written by her was found in her room. In the letter, Mamitha wrote that she was taking the extreme step due to mental stress.
A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
This is the second suicide by a IIT-Hyderabad student in less than a month. D Karthik (21) had died by suicide by drowning in sea at Visakhapatnam as he was depressed over his backlogs. His body was recovered on the beach on July 25.
