Angul: Panic prevailed for sometime at Angul district headquarters hospital when a fire broke out at its Maternal Child Health (MCH) immunization centre on Sunday.
Patients, including infants, were immediately evacuated from the immunization centre after they saw smoke billowing out from the room.
However, timely intervention by fire personnel helped avert a major fire accident.
None of the patients suffered any injury as they came out of the hospital premises when the incident took place. An electrical short circuit in the stabilizer, is suspected to have triggered the fire, a fire official said.
An inquiry has been launched to determine the exact cause of the mishap.
On the other hand, a few patients alleged that faulty electrical wiring inside the hospital might have led to the mishap and demanded an investigation into the matter.
