Balasore: A fisherman was shot dead and another critically injured after they were hit by stray shrapnel while fishing in the deep sea near the prohibited area of DRDO’s Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur in Odisha’s Balasore, according to media reports.
The deceased was identified as Kamalalochan Majhi. He was hit in the chest, the reports said. Padmalochan Mallick, who was injured, has been admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital.
According to the reports, seven fishermen including Majhi and Mallick had gone into the deep sea in a boat. They were fishing between Jodakuti and Gada rivers when the tragic incident took place.
The boat may have strayed into the prohibited area of the testing range where DRDO was conducting an ammunition test, the reports said.
