Balasore: In a valuable catch, a group of fishermen managed to get nine giant and rare ‘Telia Sila’ fish in the net in the Bay of Bengal near Digha close to Odisha.

As per information, the fishermen sold the rare fish weighing around 1.990 quintals for a whopping price of Rs 15 lakh. To their delight, the fish was sold for Rs 7,500 per kg at a market close to Jaleswar in Odisha’s Balasore district.

After the fishermen set out for fishing, the rare fish were caught in the net of a trawler owned by Sekh Rohimul, stated to be a resident of Nandigram area of West Bengal.

Sources said there was a huge rush in the market in Digha to have a look at the rare fish. Many tourists and other local people gathered to see the rare fish. A Kolkata-based company bought them for Rs 15.15 lakh.

Experts are of the view that Telis Sila has immense medicinal value. This species of fish usually likes to move in deep sea and it is rarely caught in sea mouth. The value of the fish is determined by its gender and weight

The Telia Sila is highly sought after for its medicinal properties. Its dried swim bladders, rich in collagen, are used by consumer product companies worldwide for their purported anti-ageing properties, making it a valuable catch for fishermen, they said.
