Balangir: Five persons, including two children, died as a car in which they were travelling rammed a truck Chuinbandha on Balangir-Sambalpur NH-26 late on Tuesday.
The deceased have been identified as Atmaj Nayak (25), his sister Ipsita Sai (27), her daughter Riya (6), Atmaj’s uncle Deeptiranjan Sai (35) and his daughter Anvi (6). Atmaj’s mother Arati (47) and Deeptiranjan’s wife Rasmita (29), who sustained grievous injuries, are undergoing treatment at VIMSAR in Burla.
According to sources, the accident took place when driver of the car lost control over the vehicle and rammed a stationary truck parked along the road while they were returning home after attending a wedding at Agalpur. Atmaj was at the wheels.
Five occupants of the vehicle died on the spot under the impact of the collision. The family belonged to Ramjeepada in Balangir, the sources added.
On being informed, police recovered the bodies and rescued the victims. An investigation into the incident is underway.
