Mumbai: All international passengers coming from “at-risk” nations must undergo a mandatory seven-day institutional quarantine, the Maharashtra government said on Tuesday.

Mumbai airport sources say that the government order to place passengers into compulsory isolation facilities will be immediately implemented. Travellers will need to pay for the quarantine facility at designated hotels, a source told NDTV.

The order may create confusion at the airports as several passengers are mid-air on the way to the state, and would probably be not aware of mandatory institutional quarantine rules and the hotel expenses they would be required to bear.

These passengers should also undergo RT-PCR tests for COVID thrice — on the second, fourth, and seventh days since arrival.

Travellers testing positive will be shifted to a medical facility while those testing negative must undergo an additional seven days of home quarantine, according to the government order.

The state government said that the Centre-issued travel guidelines on November 28 in view of Omicron, the new variant of COVID that has been designated a variant of concern by WHO.
