Bhubaneswar: Flight operations from Biju Patnaik International Airport here will not stop during the runway re-carpeting work and the management instead will reach out to the airlines for a change in the schedule.
“The runway re-carpeting work will be executed over a period of 8-10 months, beginning February 1, but flight operations will not stop,” Airport Director V V Rao has said.
The city handles close to 50 arrivals and departures every day, spread over 24 hours.
“We will reach out to the airlines and discuss with them about changing the flight timings,” he said in a statement.
During last 3-4 months, re-carpeting work will be taken up during day time, a period when traffic movement remains high, he said.
The airport re-carpeting work was last taken up in 2007.
The work was first scheduled for November this year, but was postponed to December and then again to February.
