Malkangiri: Flight services from Malkangiri will start by 2024, said chief secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra on Thursday.
Speaking to media persons after reviewing the progress of various development schemes in the district with senior officers, Mohapatra said land for the proposed air strip has already been acquired and forest clearance obtained for the project.
He further said the state government will soon invite tender for the project work soon so that the air strip can be completed and become functional by March, 2024.
Earlier on the day, Mohapatra arrived at Jeypore air strip on a 4-day visit to Koraput and Malkangiri districts. He is accompanied by member, Board of Revenue, GR Venugopal Sharma.
The chief secretary is scheduled to visit Swabhman Anchal of Chitrakonda and Motu on Friday. Later, he would go to Koraput to hold review meetings on various welfare schemes of the government.
