Jeypore: Odisha Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra has said that commercial flights could start operating from the Jeypore airport in Koraput district in 90 days.
Mohapatra was confident that commercial flight operations from the airport would soon start after reviewing the progress of work on Friday during his visit to the district.
“Construction of the required infrastructure to allow commercial flights at the airport is in its last stage,” he said during the visit.
The existing 915-metre-long runway is being expanded to 1,199 metres. The runway is also being widened to 30 metres from the existing 23 metres.
The expansion work, being carried out at a cost of Rs 55 crore, is nearing completion.
A bridge will also be constructed over a canal that flows through the airport. Besides, the approach road from NH-56 to the airport, which is now 5.5 metres wide, will be further widened to 7 metres.
