Bhubaneswar: The state government has estimated the total cost of damages in the recent floods at Rs 218.72 crore.
The report that covered Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangpur districts attributed damages worth Rs 25.37 crore to water resources department, Rs 60.79 crore to public works, Rs 4.63 crore to energy, Rs 48 crore to rural development, Rs 49.98 crore to panchayati raj, Rs 67.35 lakh to animal resources development, Rs 4.36 crore to agriculture, Rs 10.09 crore to scheduled caste/scheduled tribe, Rs 31 lakh to forests and environment, Rs 3.84 crore to mass education department and Rs 1.66 crore to women and child development department.
The total damage to individual houses has been estimated at Rs 7.22 crore and 23, 991 hectare agricultural land completely damaged in the floods, the damage assessment report submitted on July 29 by home department additional chief secretary Asit Tripathy, forests and environment additional secretary Suresh Mohapatra and additional chief secretary R Balkrishnan stated.
The government has sought the Centre’s assistance in reinstating railway bridges, national highways and telephone line connection that were damaged during the floods.
