Bhadrak: While the Odisha government has sounded flood alert for six riverside districts due to swelling of the Mahanadi river, flood threat looms large in Bhadrak district with the Baitarani river touching the danger mark.
Till reports last came in, the water level in Baitarani has touched the danger mark at 17.83 metres at Akhuapada Anicut by 11 am.
To monitor the flood situation, Superintending Engineer Bijay Mishra and Executive Engineer Dhaneswar Samal of the Water Resources department are visiting the river embankments.
Asked whether there is any flood threat in the district, Mishra said there was no flood threat as yet. If the river crosses 18 metre, the excess water would be released to the fields through the two embankment gates at Balipokhari and Bati.
Going by the rise in the water level of Baitarani due to heavy rain in the upper catchments, flood situation in the district cannot be ruled out at the moment.
