New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has decided to challenge Jharkhand High Court’s order to grant bail to RJD president and former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav in the Doranda treasury case related to the fodder scam.
CBI’s challenge in Supreme Court pertains to the bail order of Jharkhand HC in four cases relating to multi-crore fodder scam (Dumka, Chaibasa, Doranda, Deogarh treasuries).
The central agency wants the RJD chief’s bail cancelled.
The Supreme Court agreed to list the appeals filed by CBI on August 25.
Last February, a special CBI court found Lalu Prasad guilty in Doranda treasury case, related to the fodder scam. In the fodder scam, illegal withdrawals amounting to Rs 950 crore were allegedly withdrawn from various government treasuries for fictitious expenditure on fodder and other requirements for cattle during Lalu’s term as Bihar CM.
Of the 99 accused in Doranda treasury case, 24 have been acquitted and 46 were handed three-year jail terms last week.
The 74-year-old Lalu, a former Union minister, had earlier been sentenced to 14-year jail term in four other cases related to Dumka, Deoghar and Chaibasa treasuries.
