Nabarangpur: Vigilance has arrested the forest guard, who was apprehended with unaccountable cash of over Rs 1.5 lakh on Thursday, in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district.
On receipt of reliable information regarding collection of huge cash by Binayak Sori, Forest Guard in Nandahandi Beat and in-charge of Jagannathpur Beat in the office of DFO, Nabarangpur as illegal gratification from different sources, a team of Odisha Vigilance had kept a close watch on his movement.
The Vigilance team intercepted Sori near Kapur Dam of Indrabati Project in the district, while he was coming from Khatiguda to Jagannathpur on a motorcycle. During interception, Rs 1.53 lakh, suspected to be ill-gotten cash, was recovered from his possession.
As he could not account for the money satisfactorily, the entire cash was seized. Following interception, search was conducted at rented residential house of Sori at Raju Sahi in Nabarangpur.
The Koraput Vigilance registered a case under Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 in this connection. Sori was arrested and forwarded to the court on Friday.
