Rourkela: A team of forest officials from Nandankanan has reached Rourkela to tranquilize an injured wild elephant at Bada Gaan jungle in Kutra block on Friday.
The elephant has severe injuries on its trunk and has been creating havoc in the area. The team, with three doctors, will tranquilize the elephant for treatment.
The man-animal conflict has been continuing in Odisha since the last several months. The carcass of an elephant was found near Taila in Sukasan reserve forest in Athagarh a couple of days earlier. Later, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Sasmita Lenka confirmed that it was a case of poaching. Preliminary investigation shows that the elephant was trapped and made to consume some poisonous substance, she said.
