Mumbai: Former Mumbai Mayor Datta Dalvi was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly making objectionable remarks against Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

An FIR has been registered against Dalvi under Sections 153A(1)(a), 153B(1)(b), 153A(1)(c), 294, 504, and 505 of IPC for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language; imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration; obscene acts and songs; and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace.

A leader of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), Dalvi was arrested by Bhandup Police and produced before a magistrate’s court in Mumbai.

He has been sent to judicial custody till December 12.

It was at a meeting organised by Uddhav-led Shiv Sena faction (UBT) in suburban Bhandup on Sundat where Dalvi allegedly made objectionable comments against Shinde.

A Shinde loyalist lodged the FIR against Dalvi at Bhandup police station.

The prosecution claimed during Wednesday’s hearing that Dalvi used derogatory words against Maharashtra CM and when police tried to deliver the summons notice under Section 41(A) of CrPC, he refused to accept it.

Dalvi’s lawyers will be moving a bail application.
