Bhubaneswar: Retired bureaucrat Asit Kumar Tripathy was elected as president of Bhubaneswar Club, Odisha’s premier recreational facility for the elites, for the second consecutive term on Sunday.
He defeated his nearest rival Satya Prakash Nanda by securing 858 votes of 1054 votes polled, sources said.
A former chief secretary of Odisha, Tripathy has been serving as Principal Advisor to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Chairman of Western Odisha Development Council since he retired in December 2020. Nanda retired as development commissioner and also served as chairman of Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission.
Tripathy won the last election, which was held after much delay, by defeating his nearest rival Bijay Kumar Patnaik, a former Chief Secretary, by a comfortable 278 votes.
Along with him, his entire team won the election, which was held on Saturday. Dilip Routrai has been elected as the secretary. He got 723 votes. While Mahendra Kumar Gupta won the Vice-President elections with 622 votes, Ashok Kumar Mishra emerged as the winner for the Joint Secretary post with 759 votes.
Notably, finance secretary Vishal Dev, who was the secretary of the premier club, opted out of the race this election.
The Bhubaneswar Club in the past had been headed by former chief ministers Harekrushna Mahatab (1957) and Biju Patnaik (1962-1964).
