Sambalpur: Former minister Sanatan Bisi passed away at his residence at Daleipada in Sambalpur district on Tuesday morning. He was 79.
Born on November 16, 1941, Bisi was a frontline leader of the students’ movement in 1964.
He was the general secretary of Paschima Odisha Sanskrutika Parishad and closely associated with the movements in western Odisha.
Apart from this, he was the president of the district Janata Dal and member of the state committee of the party.
His political career began as a member of Rajya Sabha in 1994. He was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly from Rairakhol constituency twice in 2000 and 2004 on BJD ticket. He also held the Health and Family Welfare portfolio during this tenure.
In his condolence message, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said Bisi was a dedicated social worker and his simplicity had endeared him to all irrespective of party affiliations. “His death is a great loss for all of us,” he added. The Chief Minister also conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
