Bhubaneswar: Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal has approved the recommendation to appoint former judge of Orissa High Court Justice Bijay Krishna Patel as Chairperson of Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC). A committee headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had recommended the name of Justice Patel for the post.
Born at Sundargarh town on January 24, 1953, Justice Patel completed LLB from Faculty of Law, Delhi University. He was the Judge of Orissa High Court from January 17, 2008 to January 23, 2015.
He was principal secretary, Law Department from May 2, 2007 to January 16, 2008 and Chairman, Odisha Sales Tax Tribunal from November 7, 2005 to April 25, 2007.
Justice Patel was also president of State Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission from June 8, 2017 to Jan 23, 2020.
