Bhubaneswar: A former police officer has reportedly died of dengue in a private hospital of Odisha capital.
According to sources, retired additional DCP Sudarshan Sethi of Niladri Vihar in the city was admitted to the private hospital following high fever. His blood tests conducted in the hospital confirmed that he was suffering from dengue. While Sethi was undergoing treatment, he succumbed on Wednesday night.
Though around 400 persons have been affected by the disease in Ward III of the city, according to unofficial sources, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) maintained that only two persons in Niladri Vihar and Damana were affected.
Following the death of Sethi, Bhubaneswar mayor Sulochana Das visited Sailashree Vihar, Niladri Vihar, Damana and Sri Vihar under Ward III to take stock of the situation. While reviewing the sanitation and drainage facilities in the area, she directed the BMC officials to clear the choked drains and disinfect those.
The mayor said the BMC would launch an awareness drive on preventive steps to be taken by the people to prevent the spread of dengue in the city.
