Bhubaneswar: Former two-time chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh is likely to join the Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday (September 19) by merging his party, the Punjab Lok Congress (PLC), with the saffron party, news agency ANI reported.
However, some media reports quoted party sources said saying that the date was not confirmed yet.
The 80-year-old Captain had floated the PLC after quitting Congress following his unceremonious exit as chief minister last September. He would be leaving for New Delhi on September 18 and join the BJP in the presence of party president JP Nadda and other leaders.
There has been speculation about him donning the saffron colour and his recent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah after returning from London following a spinal surgery had set tongues wagging about the possibility.
