Bhubaneswar: Police on Sunday arrested four persons in connection with the alleged attack on students of premier BJB Autonomous College in Odisha capital over a game of cricket the previous day.

Those arrested belong to Kedarpalli and Mahisakhala areas under Badagada police limits in the city. Among them, two have criminal antecedents, police sources said, adding that two knives and a cricket stump have been seized from them.

Three students were injured in the incident.

According to sources, 12 undergraduate (UG) students, all inmates of BR Ambedkar hostel of the college, went to the playground around 9.30 am to play cricket. They, however, found a group of non-students playing there.

The outsiders took another 30 minutes to vacate the ground and this led to an argument between them after which the non-students allegedly attacked the college students with sticks and sharp weapons. They also chased them till the hostel. One of the students sustained head injuries and two others were stabbed in their hands.

On being informed, Badagada police reached the spot and took the injured to the nearby hospital for treatment.

Notably, the playground is accessed by both students as well as local communities.

BJB Autonomous College Gulam Moinuddin Khan had earlier told the media that they are now planning not to allow outsiders into the playground.
