Bhubaneswar: Four rivers in Odisha were in spate on Wednesday due to incessant rain in the upper catchments.
Sources in the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) informed that the Mahanadi was flowing at 23.42 m at Naraj against the danger mark of 26.41 m. The Devi was flowing at 4.92 m (danger level 11.76 m) at Alipingal. Besides, the Ib in Sundargarh too has been swelling and flowing at 218.50 feet (danger level 222 feet) at 6 am.
Similarly, the water levels of Brahmani at Panposh was 173.36 feet (danger mark 178.42 feet) and at Jenapur, it was 1.24 m (danger level 23 m) . The water level of Baitarani at Anandpur was 34.90 m (danger level 38.36 m) and at Akhuapada, it was 16.95 m (danger mark 17.83 m).
On the other hand, the water levels of Budhabalanga, Subarnarekha, Banshadhara, Rushikulya and Jalaka receded during the period.
In Sambalpur, the water level of Hirakud dam at 6 am was 623.47 feet. The inflow of water at the dam was 1,42,744 cusecs per second and the outflow was 1,81,408 cusecs per second.
The dam authorities have opened 10 gates due to heavy rainfall in the upper catchments.
