Puri: A fraudster duped three teachers of a government school of Rs 31,000 in Brahmagiri area of Odisha’s Puri district by identifying himself as a Block Development Officer (BDO).
According to sources, the accused had made a phone call and sought the bank account details and other information of the teachers after identifying himself as the BDO of Brahmagiri. He claimed that government money will be credited into their account towards procurement of sanitisers in their school.
The headmaster of the school had reportedly gone to Puri for a training programme when he received a phone call from an unknown caller. He was reported to have forwarded the call to the headmaster in-charge. The caller identified himself as the BDO of Brahmagiri and sought to know about teachers using online bank transactions, they said.
Subsequently, the caller spoke the teachers and took all the bank account details of the three victims. Around Rs 31,000 was deducted from their accounts, the teachers alleged.
A complaint was lodged at Brahmagiri police station. A case has been registered and investigation is underway, police said.
