Bhubaneswar: Even as Odisha is staring at a high-intensity flood in Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts, the regional centre of Indian Meteorological Department on Sunday issued fresh warning for heavy rainfall.
While several parts of the coastal, interior and southern Odisha are expected to experience rainfall activities from August 22 to 25, the heavy downpour forecast for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Balasore on Tuesday is likely to worsen the flood situation.
“There’s a possibility of heavy flood in Subarnarekha. Nearly 6 lakh cusec water is passing through Galudihi barrage. Water is flowing 4mt above the danger mark at Jamsola. Baliapal, Bhograi, Jaleswar and Basta in Balasore will be affected,” Special Relief Commission (SRC) Pradeep Jena had told media.
A total of 40 operational teams have been deployed in Balasore and Mayurbhanj to meet the exigency, he added.
According to the midday bulletin, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at a few places in interior Odisha and at one or two places in coastal Odisha till 8.30 am on Monday.
Similar weather will prevail at a few places in coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, and Kandhamal and at one or two places in the rest of the state during the subsequent 24 hours.
While yellow warning has been Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Balasore on Tuesday, thunderstorm with lightning is also likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Rayagada. Light to moderate rain or Thundershower may occur at many places in coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Rayagada and at a few places in the remaining areas of the state during this period.
Yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning has been issued for one or two places in Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Angul, Dhenkanal on Wednesday. Light to moderate rain is also likely at many places in south interior Odisha, Gajapati, Ganjam, Dhenkanal and Angul and at a few places in the rest districts of Odisha.
Rain forecast continues for south interior Odisha and a few places in the remaining parts of the state on Thursday, it added.
