Fresh Low Pressure Likely Over Bay Of Bengal Over Weekend, May Turn Into Depression

Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area is likely to form southeast Bay of Bengal around November 23, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Tuesday.

“An upper air cyclonic circulation is likely to form over South Andaman Sea & adjoining areas around November 21. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and become a low-pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal around November 23. Thereafter, it is likely to continue to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over southwest Bay of Bengal during subsequent 2 days,” the wether agency said.

A continuous watch is being maintained for further intensification and movement of the system towards Tamil Nadu-Sri Lanka coasts, it added.

It has forecast isolated heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal on November 19 and November 25 and Nicobar on November 22-23. Light to moderate rain accompanied by isolated thunderstorm and lightning may occur in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe and Lakshadweep on November 19-20. Light to moderate rainfall is also likely at many places in Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the week. Light to moderate rainfall may also occur at isolated places in Assam & Meghalaya on November 19-20 and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during November 20-22.

According to the national forecaster, dry weather, however, may continue to prevail in Odisha till November 25 with no large change in the minimum temperature during the next 5 days. It has also forecast shallow to moderate fog at one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Keonjhar on November 19-20.
