Fresh Low Pressure Over Bay May Dump Very Heavy Rain In Odisha; Check Wind Warning

Bhubaneswar: The wet spell in Odisha is likely to continue with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting a fresh low-pressure area over coastal Bangladesh and neighbourhood.

“An upper air cyclonic circulation persists over southeast Bangladesh and neighbourhood. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over coastal Bangladesh and neighbourhood during the next 24 hours. Thereafter, it is likely to move slowly west-northwestwards and concentrate into a Depression over coastal West Bengal and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal during the subsequent 48 hours,” according to the midday bulletin.

The weather agency has issued orange and yellow warnings as the system may trigger very heavy to heavy rains in Odisha for three days.

Orange Warning

Heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm with lightning may occur at isolated places in Kalahandi district.

Yellow Warning

Heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm and lightning is also likely at isolated places in Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Rayagada and Gajapati.

Thunderstorm with lightning may occur at isolated places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati.

September 13

Orange Warning

Heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm with lightning may continue at isolated places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundargarh districts.

Yellow Warning

Heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm and lightning is also likely at isolated places in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Jajpur, Bargarh, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Balasore and Bhadrak.

September 14

Heavy rainfall may occur at isolated places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar,Jharsuguda, Bargarh and Sundargarh.

WIND WARNING

Due to strong monsoon current, squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph very likely during September 13-15 over North Bay of Bengal, along and off Odisha coast.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into North Bay of Bengal; along & off Odisha coast during this period.

The IMD has also warned of temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas and underpass road. Poor visibility during intense spell of rain and traffic congestion in urban areas. Some damages to unmetalled roads, kutcha houses and vegetables and horticultural crops. Mudslides/landslides in vulnerable hilly areas are also likely.

While there is no weather warning thereafter, light to moderate rain/thundershower may occur at a few places in North Odisha and at one or two places in South Odisha during the subsequent 3 days.
