Ahmedabad : ‘Amul’ brand of fresh milk will become costlier by Rs 2 per litre across the country from March 1, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) said on Monday.
The price rise extends to all milk variants by the brand, including Gold, Taaza, Shakti, T-special, as well on cow and buffalo milk.
“The increase of Rs 2 per litre translates into 4% increase in MRP which is much lower than average food inflation,” GCMMF said in a statement.
The hike has been attributed its decision to the rise in costs of energy, packaging, logistics and cattle feed, which has affected the overall milk production.
“The price revision shall help in sustaining remunerative milk prices to our milk producers and to encourage them for higher milk production,” GCMMF said.
As a policy, Amul passes on almost 80 paise of every rupee paid by consumers for milk and milk products to the producers.
The prices were last hiked in July last year by Rs 2 per litre.
