New Delhi: A district court in Chandigarh has issued notice to Mandi MP and actor Kangana Ranaut on a petition filed by former District Bar Association president Ravinder Singh Bassi seeking directions to register an FIR against her for allegedly tarnishing the image of Sikhs in her upcoming film “Emergency’.
The petition has sought that Kangana and the film’s screenplay writer Ritesh Shah be booked under sections 302, 299, 196 (I) and 197 (I) of BNSS.
In the trailer of the movie, it has been shown that the sitting Jathedar of the Akal Takht, was demanding a separate state, which is completely untrue, said the petition. The next hearing is on December 5, Times Of India reported.
Kangana Ranaut recently cited financial strains from delays in releasing her film ‘Emergency’ for selling her Pali Hill bungalow in Bandra, Mumbai for Rs 32 crore. She purchased it in 2017 for Rs 20.7 crore. The property served as the office for Manikarnika Films. She took a Rs 27 crore loan against it last year, the report added.
Kangana Ranaut’s film ‘Emergency’ awaits CBFC certification, sparking debate over censorship standards. In a News18 interview, she criticised the CBFC as outdated and argued for regulating OTT platforms due to children’s access to inappropriate content. Concerns about the film’s portrayal of the Sikh community may be affecting its certification process.
