Malkangiri: A tractor, smuggling ganja, ran over a home guard at Kankarpada Chhak in Chitrakonda area of Malkangiri district on Monday evening.
Following a tip-off, a joint team of police and excise department had put on a road check at Kankarpada square. On seeing the tractor approaching the check gate, the home guard, identified as Tuna Bairagi, tried to intercept it. Instead of stopping the vehicle, the tractor driver hit Bairagi, leaving him critically-injured, and fled.
The team then chased the tractor and arrested three smugglers for allegedly illegally transporting huge quantity of ganja. The driver, however, managed to flee under the cover of darkness.
A manhunt has been launched to nab him.
The home guard is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Chitrakonda.
