Koraput: In a major breakthrough, police seized around 1,260 kg of ganja at a village under Machhkund police limits of Odisha’s Koraput district while the contraband was being smuggled to a neighbouring state. The seized contraband was valued at around Rs 1 crore.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of police personnel raided the house of one Ghenu Khada in Khadaput village and found huge quantities of ganja packed in several plastic bags.
However, the accused had managed to escape from the spot into a nearby forest before the police raid.
According to police, attempts were being made to transport the contraband outside the state.
Police have registered a case under various sections of NDPS Act and are trying to ascertain the number of people involved in this ganja-smuggling racket. Further investigation is in progress.
