Don’t you hate the humming sound of mosquitoes that wake you up in the middle of your sleep? It is no secret that mosquito coils and liquid repellents are not good for health. According to National Center for Biotechnology Information (USA), a single mosquito coil releases same amount of particulate matter (PM) 2.5 mass as burning 75-137 cigarettes. Liquid repellents are more than 95 per cent kerosene.
The greenest and healthiest option to protect yourself from mosquitoes is the traditional mosquito net. But this is usually not a convenient option for areas other than your bed.
For other areas, the electric mosquito swatter bats are a great tool to kill mosquitoes. These badminton racket shaped devices have a caged metal mesh through which electricity passes when it is turned on. Mosquitoes coming in contact with the mesh get electrocuted and die instantly. A spark is produced at that instant. There are no chemicals. The bat is rechargeable.
Kaushik Garabadu, an IT professional, swears by it. “It is very convenient to chase and kill mosquitoes using the bat. This is the only method where results are instant. We used to finish a bottle of spray worth 200 rupees every week. This is so much economical and there’s no smell or smoke,” he said.
How Much Does It Cost?
Rs. 150 to Rs 300 depending on size and your bargaining skills.
