Balasore: Despite various awareness campaigns, there seems to be no end to atrocities against women with one more girl becoming a target of acid attack in Odisha.

A girl sustained severe burn injuries in the acid attack near Sobharampur area under Sahadevkhunta police limits in Balasore district on Sunday.

The girl was going somewhere on a scooter when two motorcycle-borne miscreants intercepted her vehicle. When the girl stopped, the duo threw acid on her and rode away from the spot.

When the victim cried for help, some passerby rushed her to the district headquarters hospital. She was later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after her condition deteriorated.

According to doctors, the girl has been kept under observation as she sustained serious burns.

The exact reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained. However, police and locals suspect a love affair-related enmity to be the reason behind the inhuman act.
