Talcher: A minor girl committed a rare act of bravery by saving her friend, who was about to be run over by a goods train in Talcher of Angul district.
The incident took place when nine-year-old girl Shrimati Bhadra and her friend Pramila Munda, 11, were returning home from school. While trying to cross a railway track from under a static goods train, it suddenly started to move and Pramila got stuck.
Using her presence of mind, Shrimati immediately pulled Pramila out of the track and saved her life. Pramila lost her right foot in the mishap. She carried Pramila on her shoulder to their home in Deramunda Basti, around half a km away from the railway track.
Pramila’s family members admitted her to the Mandapal Sub-Divisional Hospital immediately. Later, she was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as her condition a deteriorated. Though she lost her right leg, she survived.
On being informed, Angul Collector Anil Samal extended financial help to the family for her treatment.
Shrimati, daughter of Kishan and Raibari Badra, is a Class IV student of Ghantapada Nodal High School in Talcher.
