Berhampur: A girl student of a residential school reportedly died due to snake bite in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
Sources said the student, Ridhi Pradhan was studying in Class I and staying in the hostel of the residential school at Darpangia under Bhanjanagar block of the district. On Sunday night, she had dinner with other hostel boarders and went to sleep in her room.
Later at night, she cried out of pain as the snake bit her. Other students and hostel staff rushed to her room and beat the snake to death.
They informed Ridhi’s father Gobarsingh Pradhan and rushed her to a hospital at Bhanjanagar. But she succumbed during treatment in the hospital on Monday morning.
The hostel staff identified the snake as Common Krait, a highly venomous species. It is a nocturnal snake with black skin having grey or white rings.
