Mayurbhanj: Girl students of Teladihudi village under Udala block in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district tied rakhis on trees in a gesture to protect the environment.

On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, the girls got together in Kukudakhai forest area and performed puja near the trees. They applied chandan and vermillion on the trees before tying rakhis.

“Trees are an important part of our life. We tie rakhi to our brothers for their safety and they also protect us. Similarly, trees protect us in many aspects and they are our brothers too,” said Sushri Sangeeta Sahoo, a student.

“People should think trees are like God. So we performed puja and tied rakhi. We want to spread a message to the society that they should not cut trees,” said another student Bandana Dalai.

Environmentalist Padu Das lauded the students’ effort.

“These girls did a good job to save the environment. Trees protect us by giving oxygen. They are no less than any brother,” said Das.
