Keonjhar: A elephant died after being hit by a goods train near Jagannathpur village under Bamebari section of Champua range in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Wednesday.
According to sources, the accident took place between 5 am and 6 am when the sub-adult female elephant was crossing the railway tracks. The elephant was about 30 years old.
The accident took place between Nayagarh to Jurudi railway stations though a caution order was in place, the sources added.
Railway officials and a veterinary team have been rushed to the spot. A Joint Task Force of PCCF Wildlife is monitoring the incident.
Keonjhar DFO said that fog might have reduced the visibility in the area, leading to the accident. Further probe in underway.
