New Delhi: The Central government on Wednesday banned Muslim League Jammu Kashmir (Masarat Alam faction), known as MLJK-MA, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The official notification stated that MLJK-MA, chaired by Masarat Alam Bhat, is “known for its anti-India and pro-Pakistan propaganda.”

The objective of the organisation was to “get freedom of Jammu and Kashmir from India and realise its merger with Pakistan and establish Islamic State in Jammu and Kashmir,” it said, adding that members of the faction “have been indulging in the secessionist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah took to social media platform X to justify the government’s decision.

“The ‘Muslim League Jammu Kashmir (Masarat Alam faction)’/MLJK-MA is declared as an ‘Unlawful Association’ under UAPA. This organisation and its members are involved in anti-national and secessionist activities in J&K, supporting terrorist activities and inciting people to establish Islamic rule in J&K. PM Narendra Modi government’s message is loud and clear that anyone acting against the unity, sovereignty, and integrity of our nation will not be spared and face the full wrath of the law,” Shah wrote.

Earlier in the day, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauded Indian Army for their bravery.

“I believe in your bravery and steadfastness… Terrorism should be finished from Jammu and Kashmir and you need to move forward with this commitment. I have full faith that you will achieve victory,” Rajnath said, addressing troops in Rajouri.

The Defence minister is in Jammu to review security situation following last week’s terrorist attack on Army vehicles in Poonch that killed four soldiers.
