New Delhi: In an effort to enhance efficiency in the Electronic Toll Collection system, the Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has mandated that FASTags with incomplete KYC (Know your customer) will be deactivated or blacklisted by banks after January 31.

The directive, from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), under the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative that aims to discourage people from using single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to a particular vehicle.

In an official PIB release, NHAI stated that FASTags with valid balance but with incomplete KYC will get deactivated/blacklisted by banks post 31st January 2024. To avoid inconvenience, users must ensure that KYC of their latest FASTag is completed.

It also made it clear that only the latest FASTag account will remain active.

In case there are further queries or need for assistance, FASTag users can reach out to nearest toll plazas or toll-free customer care number of their respective issuer banks.

“FASTags are sometimes deliberately not fixed on the windscreen of the vehicle, resulting in unnecessary delays at the toll plazas and causing inconvenience,” NHAI further pointed out.
